Things were going incredibly well in Monroe.
D.B. & Jenni had taken the new Star 101.9 morning show to the top of the ratings, the station was connecting with the community, and D.B. had rediscovered everything he'd once loved about radio.
Then the changes started.
One D.B. had always suspected might eventually happen.
Another he absolutely didn't see coming.
And suddenly, for the first time in his Radio Journey, the next decision wasn't only about his career anymore.
🎙️ Episode 061 | It Was Time to Go Home
Today, D.B. closes this chapter of the Radio Journey—and explains why the audio journal is about to change direction.

That's enough. Don't mention pregnancy, Christopher, Ace & TJ, quitting, moving home or Duck Dynasty in the description. Let people discover all of it.

After losing his dad, D.B. came dangerously close to walking away from radio altogether.
Then came Monroe, Louisiana.
A brand-new station. A brand-new morning show. A new co-host named Jenni—and a market that had absolutely no idea what D.B. was about to bring to morning radio.
For the first time in months, something started coming back.
The excitement.
The ridiculous ideas.
The connection with listeners.
And most importantly, the reason D.B. fell in love with radio in the first place.
But just as things were starting to feel right again, more changes were coming.

After everything that happened in Alabama, D.B. knew it was time to leave.
This time, he wanted to go home.
A promising opportunity appeared at a radio station he'd listened to his entire life, and for a while, it looked like everything was falling perfectly into place.
Until it wasn't.
Then D.B. answered a mysterious radio job posting that didn't identify the station—or even tell him where the job was.
What followed sent the Radio Journey somewhere he absolutely wasn't expecting.
And when D.B. arrived, an entire city was already asking the same question:
What does “KNOE IS DEAD” mean?

After losing his dad, D.B. was angry.
Angry that radio had taken him hundreds of miles from home. Angry about the moments he'd missed. And convinced that chasing his dream had cost him something he could never get back.
He was ready to quit.
But over the next several weeks, a series of moments began to change the way D.B. looked at everything that had happened.
Was it coincidence? Was it exactly what he needed at exactly the right time? Or was someone trying to tell him something?
Nearly 20 years later, D.B. still remembers what happened next.
This is Part Two of the most personal chapter of the Radio Journey so far.

What starts as a conversation about a viral pickle dip quickly turns into a deep dive into forgotten insults, old-school detective voices, and one of the worst business ideas D.B. has ever come up with.
On this episode:
- Ted shares his new obsession with homemade pickle dip.
- Why "dill weed" might be the most underrated insult of the 1990s.
- The return of "dweeb" and other words that disappeared.
- Two grown men accidentally creating a 1940s detective drama.
- The birth of Detective Harold Knuckles.
- D.B.'s questionable plan to make millions selling Aruba's wild donkeys.
- Why the website name sounded much better... until someone explained it.
- The unexpected return of the Devil Lawyer to save the day.
Sometimes the funniest episodes are the ones with absolutely no plan—and this one goes off the rails in the best possible way.
New episodes of D.B. & Ted are released every Sunday.

There are certain dates you never forget.
For D.B., one of them is July 16, 2007.
He was sitting at his desk at the radio station in Alabama when his phone rang. It was his mom calling in the middle of the day—something she almost never did.
Then she said the words that changed everything.
In today's Radio Journey, D.B. remembers losing his father, the coworkers who surrounded him when he was hundreds of miles from home, the simple drives and Wawa coffees he shared with his dad, and the phone calls they made to each other throughout D.B.'s radio career.
He also remembers one voicemail from the night before that he wishes he'd answered.
And for the first time since beginning his journey in radio, D.B. seriously wondered whether any of it was worth what he'd missed back home.
He was ready to walk away.
Then something happened.

After mistaking his coworker for a ghost in the last episode, D.B. has another creepy Alabama story—this time involving a beautiful park, a late-night walk home and a statue that looked very different after dark.
But the real story today is about the people D.B. met while living hundreds of miles from home.
There's Diesel, a Detroit radio guy who somehow knew people from D.B.'s Philadelphia radio days.
And then there's Frank.
Frank was a wonderful guy.
Frank could also talk.
A lot.
So much that D.B. and Diesel eventually developed an emergency rescue system for anyone unfortunate enough to be “getting Franked.”
It was goofy workplace nonsense—but looking back nearly 20 years later, D.B. realizes those friendships served a much bigger purpose. When you're far from home, sometimes the people you work with become the people who get you through it.
And that's about to become more important than D.B. realizes.

D.B. was working nights inside an old Victorian house in Alabama that, according to local history, had once been used as a hospital during the Civil War.
Most nights, everyone else was gone before his show ended at midnight.
The lights were off.
The hallways were dark.
And one night, something kept catching the corner of D.B.'s eye.
Then he turned around and saw an elderly man standing inside a dark production studio—a tall, slender man with a gaunt appearance who looked like he could have stepped straight out of an old photograph from the 1800s.
For about half a second, D.B. was convinced he'd just seen a ghost.
Turns out his name was Frank.
Then D.B. introduces another unforgettable Alabama radio friend, Farley—and explains why yelling “TIGER FOOTBALL!” at the wrong moment became a joke they're still talking about nearly 20 years later.
And before we leave Alabama, there's another creepy story waiting in a nearby park...
